Het Koninklijk Museum voor Midden-Afrika, één van de drukst bezochte musea van het land, werd gebouwd onder Leopold II, door architect Charles Girault. Het gebouw is 125m lang en 75m breed. De voorgevel is naar de Franse tuinen gericht. Aan de oostkant van deze Franse tuinen werd in 1997 een beeldengroep van Tom Frantzen geplaatst ter gelegenheid van 100 jaar Koloniale Tentoonstelling. Het monument "The Congo, I presume. Congo-Tervuren 1897-1997" is bedoeld als artistieke uitdrukking van het Belgisch verleden in Congo en brengt hulde aan de intrinsieke schoonheid van de Afrikaanse strijders.
