Le Musée royal de l'Afrique centrale, l'un des musées les plus visités du pays, a été construit sous Léopold II, par l'architecte Charles Girault. Le bâtiment mesure 125 m de long et 75 m de large. La façade est orientée vers les jardins français. Du côté est de ces jardins français, un groupe de sculptures de Tom Frantzen a été installé en 1997 à l'occasion du 100e anniversaire de l'Exposition coloniale. Le monument "The Congo, I presume. Congo-Tervuren 1897-1997" est destiné à être une expression artistique du passé belge en Congo et rend hommage à la beauté intrinsèque des guerriers africains.
