Amelsdorp is a very old hamlet and was an autonomous municipality during the French period (1795-1815). The agricultural history was significantly greater in Amelsdorp than in Waltwilder itself. Important families used to be located here on numerous monumental farms. Amelsdorp was probably destroyed by the Spaniards
Amelsdorp is located close to the hamlet "Berg" near Kleine Spouwen, but has always belonged to Waltwilder.
The connecting road was undeveloped until the beginning of this century. The hamlet retained its original street pattern quite neatly.
