This cemetery was started in June 1917, when an expansion of Vlamertinghe Military Cemetery was no longer possible due to lack of space and in preparation for the large offensive (Third Battle of Ypres). The cemetery remained in use until October 1918. Most of the graves date from the period July – December 1917. Many artillery units were stationed in Vlamertinge, which explains why 884 of the 1820 dead belonged to the artillery.
