In 't Oud Smis of Mekingen there is still the cosiness of the past. In 2012 the 165th anniversary was celebrated. Officially, the café dates back to 1847, but the café may be even older. Here you will be served by the 5th generation café owner. Until the mid-1950s, a blacksmith's shop was attached to the café. A grocery store lasted until the 1990s. It is the beating heart of the hamlet of Mekingen. The taproom looks a lot like a living room with a stove in the middle. The gueuze and the kriek are still collected from the cellar one by one. It doesn't get more popular than the Old Mass of Mekingen. In the weekends, many cyclists and hikers come to visit. The café is located along a GR trail. Definitely a unique place in the Pajottenland. The café also made it onto the list of the hundred best cafes in Flanders.
