Café in de Oude Smis van Mekingen

Walking through the door of the café 't Oud Smis van Mekingen is immediately breathing a breath of the friendly atmosphere of yesteryear. The café, which celebrated its 165th anniversary in 2012, officially saw the light of day in 1847, although it is possible that it is even older. You will be served by the 5th generation of owners. A forge was adjacent to the café until the mid-fifties and a grocery store was located there until the 90s. This café is the true heart of the hamlet of Mekingen. The coffee room is strongly reminiscent of a living room with the stove in the middle. Here, the gueuze and kriek are still raised one by one from the cellar. It's almost impossible to be more popular than 't Oud Smis van Mekingen. Cyclists and walkers regularly frequent the place on weekends. The café is located along a GR circuit. It is clearly a unique place in Pajottenland. Coffee was also included in the list of the hundred best coffees in Flanders.
