Montzen is a Belgian village in the municipality of Blieberg. The village has approximately 3000 inhabitants. In the village, Platdiet is spoken, a Limburgian border dialect. The village is located about 15 kilometers from the Dutch border and boasts numerous monuments. Until the abolition of the Duchy of Limburg, Montzen was the main town of one of the five Limburgian high banks. Like the rest of the duchy, Montzen was incorporated into the newly formed Ourthe department during the annexation of the Southern Netherlands by the French Republic in 1795.
