Fraipont is a place and district of the Belgian municipality of Trooz. Fraipont is located in the province of Liège and was an independent municipality until January 1, 1977. Basse-Fraipont is situated on the Vesdre River; it belonged to the Carolingian Domain of Jupille and later fell directly under the Prince-Bishopric of Liège. Around the middle of the 18th century, the lordship was granted and later sold. Ecclesiastically, Basse-Fraipont belonged to the parish of Olne, and it received a chapel in 1698, which was elevated to a parish church in 1788, dedicated to Saint Gilles.
