Neerharen is a village in Lanaken in the province of Belgian Limburg. The hamlet of Herbricht also belongs to Neerharen. When the Zuid-Willemsvaart was dug in 1828, a very old silver vase emerged from the Meuse, which is now kept in the National Museum of Antiquities in Leiden. The object, probably originating from Southern Europe and dating from the period around 500 BC, has long been a topic of discussion, particularly due to the mysterious inscription with Latin and Greek characters, the meaning of which is still unclear. The Roman road from Nijmegen to Tongeren passed through Neerharen. Important Roman remains have been found here, including a Roman bathing complex with hypocaust, dating from around AD 100.
