Massenhoven was first mentioned in the 12th century. Until 1644 the village was in the possession of the Duke of Brabant, in 1644 it was granted as a seigneury to Adriaan Brouwers, later to the families of Zinnick, Cannaert and de Saint-Vaast. Around 1585 Massenhoven was destroyed and in 1702-1703 the village suffered damage, as it was on the front line against France during the War of the Spanish Succession. Destruction also took place on 12 May 1940.
