Vollezele is famous as the centre of the Brabant draught horse. Southwest Brabant also gave its name to the living heritage that still grazes on the sloping meadows: the Brabander is a sturdy farmer's horse that has its roots in the stables of Vollezele and from there has 'conquered the world'. Until the mechanization and use of tractors after the First World War, these horses were the main source of traction power in agriculture, transport and industry. It was cultivated both in a square farm (including Bree-eik in Sint-Kwintens-Lennik, the Hof te Rammeken in Gaasbeek, the Hof Terhagen and the castle domain of Steenhout in Vollezele) and in a stud farm breeding, such as that of Remy Van Der Schueren, also in Vollezele.
