Zande

Zande is a small village in the West Flanders polders. Since 1971, it has been a part of Koekelare. Besides the main municipality Koekelare, Zande is surrounded by several other small villages, namely Moere and Zevekote, Leke, and Sint-Pieters-Kapelle.

Zande is primarily an agricultural village; the church with several houses around it is situated amidst extensive fields and meadows. Until the second half of the 20th century, various services could still be found in the then-independent municipality, such as a primary school, but these have disappeared due to the small scale, and residents have to rely on the main municipality Koekelare or the surrounding villages. In addition to residential houses, the village still has various hospitality businesses today. These cater to both the local population and cycling tourists in the quiet polders.
