Audenaerde Marshes

This place took shape in the 60s, when the original landscape of the marshes had to give way to a 40 ha pond with an uninhabited island, due to the construction of the N60. Legend has it that during the work, a truck got bogged down... and that it is always stuck at the bottom of the pond.

Apart from the recreational activities that have developed here since then, a rich natural biotope has also been created. Especially in winter, there is a huge population of birds on the pond.
This place was already visited by hunter-collectors more than 10,000 years ago. The first farmers of our region used to graze their cattle here.

And if you're starting to feel a little weak, Den Dronk can get you back on your feet. This tavern is part of The Outsider, an organization that organizes outdoor activities for groups, schools and associations.
