At the municipal cemetery (between junction 33 and 23), Boon and Daens found their final resting place. A bit further lies the castle of Regelsbrugge. In 1885, a crisis broke out in Aalst when a large number of factory workers were laid off. Boon describes in Pieter Daens, in an ironic manner, how a scion of the Catholic banking family Liénart was able to purchase the castle of Regelsbrugge despite this crisis. It was surrounded by beautiful orchards and forests, ponds, and ditches. The castle was purchased in 1930 by Hippolyte Schotte, who was instrumental in the founding of the Aalst tanning company Schotte.
