The quay of Sint-Amands served as a landing place until the 1970s. Due to the raising of the dikes, this activity disappeared. The grave of the French-speaking writer Emile Verhaeren (1855-1916) and his wife Marthe Massin still protruded above the quay in the 1950s but had to be adjusted to the rising flood levels. From the quay, you have a beautiful view over the Scheldt towards Mariekerke, with Sint-Amandsschoor on the opposite side. A visit to the Dam, the Mill Museum, and the Provincial Verhaeren Museum is definitely worth it.
