Molenstede is known for its rich association life. The bottom of the statue "De Goede Lieden van Moelstede" refers to the legend that the inhabitants of Molenstede fished the statue of Mary of Diest out of the Demer while it floated upright against the current. This was the start of the Onze Lieve Vrouwe Gilde, the first association of Molenstede. The guild was allowed to carry the statue around in the annual tour of Diest. The top of the image – a cozy gang at the table with a fresh pint – is a nod to the current club life.
