Malesbroek
The nature reserve "Malesbroek" is a 100-hectare water landscape located in the alluvial plain of the Grote Nete. The soil consists mainly of very wet soils on light sandy clay with peat layers at a shallow depth and with an iron-rich topsoil. Several patches of peat (created from half-decayed plant remains) occur there. The reclamation of large peat complexes at the turn of the century gave rise to the pond "Malesbroek". The shallow depth of this lake is a reminder of this peat extraction.
The site of the current pond and surrounding small ponds is referred to as swamp. Around the central large pond you can still notice patches of swamp forests and hay and meadows lined with wooded edges. The nature reserve is biologically very valuable to rare, because it contains a wide variety of natural biotopes. This area attracts a diverse bird population because it is very suitable as a breeding, sleeping, resting and wintering place. The very diverse vegetation is also well worth seeing.
