Hof te Zellick/Castle of Rattendaal. Rattendaal was first mentioned in a deed from 1290. In 1569, Rattendaal is described as “house of pleasure surrounded by moats”. Hof te Zellick was first mentioned in 1174. In 1647, this estate had an area of 65 acres. In 1658, Laurentius van Hovines purchased the entire estate, namely the country house Rattendaal and the adjacent Farm, the Hof van Zellick. An image from 1719 shows that the entire area consisted of a closed farm round, a courtyard divided in two with a chapel in the southeast corner and an additional perpendicular annex to the northwest. The layout of the buildings, consisting of the castle and the tenant farm, largely remained intact until the first quarter of the 19th century. In 1836, the castle was rebuilt as a late Neoclassical country house with a strict design. The tenant farm was also demolished, and a new dwelling was built. In the following century, the building underwent several changes. In the 20th century, the entire complex suffered various consequences from both World Wars. Until the 1980s, the buildings were converted into administrative offices, a library, and classrooms. In 1949, it was established as Hospital De Bijtjes and further developed into a specialized rehabilitation center.
