The statue ''The chicory farmer'' by Luc Mathijs is located on the Kerkplein of Kampenhout at the entrance of the Molenstee retirement home. Poet Marcel Pira wrote the poem:
The chicory farmer
Rooted in the bible of his village
with hands that determine his own destiny
and words that hardly translate him
-everything he achieves is on a roll
From- that's how the year covers him
With hard work, never tired of life:
First the germination of the seed in the very beginning
spring plumage,
than the care of the plant in hot summer hours
In wet autumn, sometimes in the layer of a
rheumatism bite with the
simmering fires...
But when the white gold is under his
Eyes Rice
Suddenly, the ground becomes his organ that
praises his labor.
