Together with the Begijnhof Church in Sint-Truiden, the Tongeren Begijnhof is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is the oldest beguinage in the Low Countries. This small town survived the Great Fire of Tongeren in 1677. Most of the authentic beguinage houses were preserved and beautifully restored along with the old streets. This also applies to the magnificent Saint Ursula Chapel. The winding streets also lead you to the Saint Catherine's Church, one of the most beautiful corners of Tongeren.
