High on the Wijngaardberg, in the middle of unspoiled nature, stands the majestic, 10 meter high H. Hart statue. The imposing statue of Christ, which protectively extends its hands over Wezemaal, impresses many walkers. In 1914, at the start of the First World War, the windmill of Wezemaal stood here, high above Wezemaal. Farmers of Wezemaal could have their grain milled here. From the mill there was a magnificent panorama of the entire region: a perfect viewpoint for the German troops to survey the entire area. To prevent this, the Belgian soldiers deliberately destroyed the mill. It burned out completely. For years, this place was the favorite playground for children. In that period there was a great devotion to the Sacred Heart and within the parish community the idea grew to place a Statue of the Holy Heart on this bare spot. The parishioners collected the necessary money and in 1925 they started diligently building the statue.
On September 5, 1926, the statue, a work of art by sculptor M. Van de Capelle from Anderlecht, was solemnly inaugurated by Mgr. Tessens, representative of Mgr. Van Roey
