In the centre of the domain of about 100 hectares are a mansion from 1857 and a farm with a core from the 17th century, which became the property of the Vroonen family in 1869. The construction of an English garden, a pond and avenues followed. On 2 April 1942, a Dutch-speaking home for children opened its doors under the name 'Tehuis Rulot', named after Narcisse Rulot, a then director-general of the NMBS. The German occupying forces closed the home on 20 May 1944 and requisitioned the castle. In 1953, the city of Hasselt bought the domain, which had it occupied for a short time by Trappistine sisters. From 1975 onwards, the domain was repurposed as a petting zoo.
