Around Borgloon you will find the more closed orchard landscape because of the moist soil, while in the south the arable landscape with beets, potatoes and cereals has a much more open character. It is precisely this transition that makes this area so interesting. In addition, the alternation of fields with rough edges and hedges or shrubs makes it attractive to many birds such as the yellow bunting. When the apples are ripe it is wonderful to walk here because there is a fresh sweet smell of apples in the air. In August, wooden boxes with apples are waiting to be picked up along the road. You pass both low and standard orchards. Standard orchards have a special function in nature conservation. You will find real badger castles and the black and white striped mammal does surprisingly well. The knots and hollows in the trees form excellent nesting places for owls and the hedgehog can also gather quite a meal here.
