L'Eau Noire
The Eau Noire is a source of the river Viroin that rises in Rocroi (France) at an altitude of 350 meters. Shortly after its source, it forms the border with France for about five kilometers before turning northwards.
Just past Couvin, the main town on the river, part of the river goes underground through the Grottes de Neptune, also called "Grottes de l'Adugeoir". The underground branch merges with the main stream at Nismes.
At the "Roche à Lomme", the Eau Noire merges with the Eau Blanche at an altitude of 150 meters to form the Viroin.
The Eau Noire - Black Water - comes directly from the woods, making the water clearer than that of the Eau Blanche, so that you can see deeper into it almost to the bottom, which then gives a darker image.
