Saint Gaugericus:
According to centuries-old tradition, the oldest place of worship, in Pamel near the Dender, was dedicated to the Divine Redeemer or Saint Salvator (1), but it is certain that in 1260 Saint Gaugericus was the patron of the 'altar'. In 1572/1573, however, according to decanal records, the main altar was dedicated to Saint Lawrence, in 1593 Saint Gaugericus was indicated and in the early 17th century the abbot of Ninove mentioned both side by side. After that, St. Lawrence at Pamel clearly surpassed St. Gaugericus in popularity, but the latter remained patron of the parish.
