Description

The road you now walk on is the 'Roman Cobblestone': the heirbaan that once connected Tongeren with Tienen. Go higher up and take a look and discover the archaeological art in the grassland. Artist Hans Lemmen placed five terracotta-coloured concrete benches on this spot. The bank has the basic shape of a Roman villa. On the back of each bench is the floor plan of one of the excavated villas nearby; such as the villa of Sassenbroek just 1 kilometer away. These villas were actually farms of 50 to 80 hectares in size. Sit next to the Roman on the couch and enjoy the breathtaking panorama over this Roman landscape.
