The Hageland distinguishes itself from other regions by its Diestian or witness hills. These hills are the sandbanks that were left behind when the Diestian Sea receded about 7 million years ago. Once the sandbank came into contact with the air, the iron oxidized and the sand clumped together into a hard, rust-brown iron sandstone. Here, at the edge of the valley, you will find various witness hills. The hill here is surrounded by pines from the Molenberg. Further along the walk, you will also pass the Hooilandse mountain.
