The Klein-Nederstraat forms a hollow road near the historical and mythological site of the Leurreschuur. Hollow roads are formed because the clay minerals in the ground are literally pressed flat (horizontally) by entry and the weight of the cart wheels. This makes the soil less permeable in that place. You see the same effect of "treading clay minerals flat" on a football field where the goalkeeper is normally pacing. Usually there is a puddle there. But on a slope like this, the water flows away and the road erodes a bit. Year after year, century after century, this erosion causes the road to cut in, flanked by steep walls.
