The Hageland hills form an important nature reserve in the regional landscape of North Hageland. The E314 motorway cuts this area in half and forms a barrier for most animals. Noise barriers, concrete road barriers and high traffic pressure stand in the way of migration between the Beninksberg and Wijgaardberg.
This eco-tunnel has been open since March 2007 and since then fewer animals have died in traffic. The exchange of genetic material also creates stronger and healthier populations. And biodiversity will gradually increase!
