The castle of Lavaux-Sainte-Anne is a defensive structure that later became a historical residence and a natural dwelling.
The fortress of Lavaux-Ste-Anne dates back to the 13th century. Originally, the fortress was nothing more than a simple watchtower, but gradually it acquired its current stature, with its keep and moat.
It was not until the 17th century that the luxurious apartments around the courtyard were built, along with the monumental Renaissance gate.
In the early 20th century, the 'Ligue des Amis du Château de Lavaux-Ste-Anne' strongly advocated for opening the castle to the public and housing museums within it. In 2004, the Ligue had the buildings restored, the museums reconfigured, and the whole complex adapted to the natural and rural atmosphere of Famenne.
