The Beguinage of Tongeren or Beguinage of Saint Catherine is a beguinage in the Belgian city of Tongeren and belongs to the oldest beguinages in Flanders. The beguinage is considered a so-called urban type and is located in the southeast of the city center.
As early as before 1239, there were already beguines present in Tongeren, living near the old Saint Jacob's Almshouse near the Kreuzpoort. To better defend Tongeren against incursions, a wall was built around the center between 1240 and 1290, causing the living area of the beguines to lie outside the city walls. Therefore, in 1257, a plot of land was granted to the beguines near the Jeker and the Moerenpoort.
