Gembloux Abbey

Established in the 10th century by Saint Guibert, the Benedictine abbey of Gembloux was rebuilt in neoclassical style in the second half of the 18th century under the direction of architect Laurent-Benoît Dewez. The abbey was suppressed during the French Revolution. In 1860, the Higher Agricultural Institute moved in, which became the University Faculty of Agricultural Sciences. Since 2009 and its integration into the University of Liège, the faculty is called "Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech" (GxABT).

You can discover the old farmhouse and barn, which now houses a large tiered amphitheater, the honor courtyard and the abbey palace, the monastic quarter and the cloister, as well as the 12th-century Roman cellar, the only remaining vestige of the medieval abbey.

Parks and courtyards are accessible during the day (according to the Faculty's schedule). No individual visits, but an audio guide is available on the Visit Gembloux website.

Guided tours in French and Dutch by reservation for groups of a minimum of 10 people: €5 per person (€1 for under-12s). Visit lasts 1.5 hours. It is possible to combine this visit with that of the city center.
