The Merelbeekse Scheldemeersen nature development project is located between the right bank of the Scheldt and the higher Gaversesteenweg in the municipalities of Merelbeke, Schelderode and Melsen in East Flanders, Belgium. The recognized nature reserve 'De Putten' in Melsen is part of the area, just like the Sint-Elooisput. On the other side of the Scheldt are the Zevergemse Scheldemeersen. Since 1981, the lakes have been protected as a cultural-historical landscape.
