The Waterschei coal mine was one of the seven mines in the Campine coal basin. This Campine mining seat was located in the district of Waterschei in the Belgian city of Genk. The concession for the operation of coal was granted on August 1, 1906, under the concession name André Dumont-sous-Asch, covering 2,950 hectares, which was expanded to 3,080 hectares in 1912. The capital of the operating company, Société anonyme André Dumont-sous-Asch, later abbreviated to Charbonnages André Dumont, was mainly in the hands of Belgian companies and wealthy Belgian industrialists.
