Originally part of the same domain as Opgrimbie, it was likely separated from it in the 9th or 10th century and more or less became part of Mechelen-on-the-Maas, although it formed its own independent district there with an annually elected mayor. After the ancien régime was abolished, it came under the municipality of Mechelen-on-the-Maas, only to be annexed by Opgrimbie in 1851. In terms of church affiliations, Daalgrimbie already joined the St. Christopher parish of Opgrimbie in 1842.
