The Grootbroek is a nature reserve west of Molenbeersel. The 142 ha area is owned by the Agency for Nature and Forest.
Originally, this area was a flow-through swamp of the Abeek. Around 1870 the Lossing was dug to drain this area. Forest was planted, and since 1998 the area has been managed as a forest reserve. The development of the forest is given free rein.
