Did you know that there was once a place for lepers here around the 1100s. In 1553 the water mill of Volsem was built on this site. This triangular abode was demarcated on all sides by water. This triangular abode that was demarcated on all sides was demarcated by water. The bed of the Zuunbeek was moved several times in the past and the double water wheel or toothed wheel, so characteristic of this water mill, has unfortunately been lost. The lock work remained intact. The building was sold in 1967 and is now a restaurant. Interesting features of the building are the slate roof and the large and small skylights. Also note the band of white stone and brick at the bottom, to keep out the rising damp. The mill, because of its value as an important historical and industrial archaeological testimony, became a protected monument.
