Holly regularly grows in beech and oak forests on reasonably acidic soil. This evergreen shrub grows slowly but can reach up to 10 m in height. The leaves are leathery and serrated, with spines at the tips. In May – June, small white flowers appear on the shrub.
Holly leaves are often seen in Christmas arrangements. In the past, holly was often planted as a hedge around a house or yard. The young leaves can be picked and dried in June. Tea made from these leaves has fever-reducing and diuretic effects.
