Willy Vandersteen grew up in the Seefhoek and this influenced the stories he created for Suske and Wiske, both in the settings where the Seefhoek frequently appeared and in the stories themselves. For example, the shout "Antigoon Vooruit!" in the album The Island of Amoras was originally "Seefhoek Vooruit". Currently, there is a Willy Vandersteen Square in the neighborhood, and the city has also established a walk titled "Seefhoek Vooruit!".
