Saint Nicholas Church

In the left aisle we have the upright bluestone tombstone of Isabella de Fren, the second wife of David Teniers. Is the great painter David Teniers now also buried in the church of Perk? One does not know and one probably never will. Because there is a mystery surrounding this tombstone.
First, the place for the painter's name was left open on his wife's tombstone.
Secondly, when the floor of the church was renewed in 1980, the skeleton of a man tilting his head was found in front of the current altar. It is known that David Teniers also tilted his head. There was apparently no time for further research and identification with the services concerned, so they only kept to taking a few photos.
Thirdly, the only place that has not been opened is under the altar of Our Lady, by analogy with the tomb of Rubens, where an altar with a painting has also been placed above, perhaps the tomb of David Teniers could be located here.
Fourthly, it was also not customary to place a tombstone upright, as is the case with Isabella de Fren's. This could indicate that the tombstone was moved when the altar was built. Source: www.steenokkerzeel.be
