At the height of Berchem Station, a large part of the landscape is dominated by buildings. The open space in front of the station is, along with the railway embankments, nearly the only green patch that connects to the side of Old Berchem. The square contains only ornamental greenery, with little ecological or recreational value. It is mainly from the air that the concept of the design is clearly visible.
