The northernmost part of the Heideland on Antwerp territory is Stoppelenberg. This area was planted with trees for timber production in the 19th century. Most of the forests in the area also date from that period. A large area of maritime pines was planted on Stoppelenberg. Due to the semi-open structure of these trees, this is an attractive habitat for a very special bird: the nightjar.
