This trench from 1915 came to light in the 1990s during the construction of a new industrial area along the Ieper-IJzer canal. The ‘Yorkshire Trench’ was created after the first gas attack in 1915. This trench from the first British line was later expanded with a ‘deep dug out’ or an underground shelter. Dolomite paths show you the corridors and rooms of the dug out. In the trench itself, you can discover the entrances to this underground structure.
Extra info:
Open for viewing from sunrise to sunset.
The Yorkshire Trench & Dug Out site is only partially accessible until 4/4/2015 due to renovation work on the trench.
