The pride of Tielt is undoubtedly the Hallentoren. This impressive building with its belfry has adorned our city for many years. In fact, since 1275 the Hallentoren has been the symbol of the city. The medieval economic and social life took place around this Lakenhalle and the now-gone Schepenhuys. The Hallentoren has undergone several transformations. Its current form dates from the years 1558-1560, except for the coats of arms of important families and lordships that were added during the restoration in 1890. The pear-shaped campanile contains a rare Du Méry carillon. In 1773, the bell founders from Bruges, Du Méry, made it possible to enjoy atmospheric tunes. Perhaps you're lucky and are currently enjoying some music! The Hallentoren was included in the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1999.
