The farm of Klein Bivelen is centuries old. On the Ferraris maps she is mentioned under the name 'Cense Kleyn Biblen'. The name Bivelen has its origins in the Middle Ages as a fortified quarry, where knights at the service of the Count of Loon lived. Around 1845 there is mention of Large and Small Bivelen for the first time. Grote Bivelen remained the property of Herckenrode Abbey until the French Revolution, after which it became private property. The original inhabitants of Bivelen remained on Klein Bivelen and continued to run it as farmers until 1985.
