The Zig was once one of the three known sites of long sundew, a native carnivorous plant that grows on peatland in Belgium. Without the open water of ponds, the osprey also kept it to themselves. Thanks to the European LIFE project, Limburgs Landschap vzw was able to purchase land between the Abeek and the Lossing, weirs were installed and the area was given a completely new look. The monotonous poplar planting soaked for open water features, swamp and swamp forest with willows. From the birdwatching hut you can now enjoy, among other things, the fluttering of the dodaars and the whistling of the small karrekite.
