Born in Neerpelt on 14 September 1912. Died February 17, 1990. Ordained a priest on July 3, 1938.
Founder of MILAC (Militian Action - was founded in 1945 as a special service of the Youth League for Catholic Action - J.V.K.A.). The task given to Milac: the preparation of the future militiamen for their military service, apostolate work in the barracks, the establishment of an intelligence service and the representation of official bodies.
With the official opening of the 44th week of the soldier, the unveiling of the statue of 'Sooi Willems' and the inauguration of the 'Sooi Willemsplein' on 19 January 1991, tributes were appropriately paid to 'Sooi Willems' as a friend, chaplain, as a human being ...
The statue is a creation of Neerpeltenaar André Jansen.
