Who doesn't remember the books of Ernest Claes? In 1969-1972 they were adapted into the immensely popular TV series 'We, Lords of Zichem'. In the background of the statue is the Convent of the Sisters of the Annonciades where, among others, Mother Cent (played by Jenny Thange), born Rosalia-Catharina Van Inthout, professed as Maria Hyacintha (1851-1916), a very resolute person and founder of the Free School of the Sisters Annonciades, lived and worked in 1873.
