In the Clay Zone sub-area, the Meuse probably deposited clay at some point. After extracting the clay, the pits were filled with gravel waste and cover sand from the other gravel extraction holes. Now the area is mowed and grazed in the summer by self-reliant large grazers. Not only the gravel farmers, but also the beavers are architects of the Meuse valley. They gnaw down trees, build castles and thus provide variation in the vegetation of the banks. They are also active in the Clay Zone and you can find many beaver tracks, especially in winter. They are real nocturnal animals that even cause trees to end up in the water and streams to meander naturally again due to those obstacles. The plank path ensures that you keep your feet dry!
