At the beginning of 2018, then Flemish Minister of Nature Joke Schauvliege (CD&V) bought several important forests in the Flemish periphery from the OCMW of Brussels, a total of 100 hectares. One of them is this Laarbeek valley in Dilbeek. In addition, the Zennebeemden in Beersel and a piece on the Hallerbos were also purchased. With the purchase, an important step in the preservation of greenery in the Flemish periphery was realized. The intention is to create extra accessible greenery in this valley. The aim is to link the purchased forests together via green corridors such as rows of trees and wood edges. This creates a network in which animals can move more easily.
